love > hate

As most of us enjoy our days off work or school today, let's just take a moment to remember why.   Martin Luther King Jr. was an incredible man, activist, human.  He fought hard for equal rights, believed in the good of the people, and had faith that we, together, could make this world a better place.  And he was right.

He still is right, although it may not seem like it at times.  If this last year has shown us anything, it's how quickly and effectively hate can permeate our lives, media, thoughts and actions.  Although we've seen hate spread though things like terrorist attacks, hate crimes, police brutality, retaliation for police brutality, the election, attempts to reverse progress made in women's rights, sexual assault, honor killings....the list goes on...there is still love, and love will always fight harder. Although I need to remind myself of this at times, love is what gets us to where we need to be.  Love is the force behind progress.  Love is the reason we all get out of bed in the morning, not hate.  It may be easy to lose hope, and to lose love, but when that happens, nobody wins.

So today, in honor of a great man, lets show a little more love.  Let's remember the progress we've made and the happiness we've created, and let's remember the place it all came from - love.
